Covers all the bases.March 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been trying to write this review for the better part of 10 minutes now, and each time I type something I delete it because I can't help gushing.
The bottom line is this. This book is fantastic, whatever you are thinking of doing in Japan, all the information is covered in this book. To social norms and etiquette, how to fit in, how society functions (schools, businesses, shopping and health care), what the diets of the Japanese are like (hint: it's not all raw fish!), useful words to know, how to get around...it's all here.
As someone who migrated to Japan himself, the author offers a realistic and honest insight into the country, offering advice as well as personal experience. Everything you need to know is in this book, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
