5 out of 5 stars Hardens Theatregoers Handbook   August 27, 2004

Authors Mark Shenton and Roger Foss provide a comprehensive
overview of all London's West End theatres (plus regional,
classical and fringe venues) this is the ideal guide book for anyone planning to take in a show while in the capital.

Every possible question you may have about the theatre of your choice is answered here - how to get there, where to park, nearest tube station, ticket office details and much more.

The reader is given a potted history of the venue in question, plus a section headed 'The best seat in the house' gives expert advice on which seats to book and prehaps more importantly, which seats to avoid.

The glossary of technical terms help to break down the mystery of theatre land jargon - Dress circle ? Royal circle ? The gods ? (It's all balconies to me).

There is a unexpected level of detail here, even down to a listing of the best restaurants in the immediate vicinity of your chosen theatre. Sadly this kind of detail is restricted to the London based theatre's, regoinal theatre's receive a basic review. A second volume could be written to cover the regions, so come on boy's, imagine the expenses you could claim !

Even if you have never visited a theatre in your life, if you have a appetite for facts, figures, statistics, trivia, which
reads in a entertainingly humorous fashion, this is the book for you.

Essential reading for both the serious theatregoer and the serious pub quiz team member.
