This book is a disgrace and should be completely rewritten.May 21, 2002 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Poor text and even poorer diagrams destroy any expectation of having the basics of TV technology introduced to one. The author and publisher should be ashamed of themselves! Had one of my students presented this work to me I would have asked him to go back and completely re-write it! Duplicate (p 21), opaque (p33) and just downright wrong (p43) diagrams confuse. Page 24 informs us that "computers are really very stupid machines" well this sort of rubbish was a cliche in the seventies and is about as helpful as saying that a baby can't understand quantum mechanics! I would have loved to have my knowledge about television wave forms refreshed, particulary how colour is applied to the scanning signal; why is component video rather than analogue RGB now a standard etc. This book did not help me. Someone gave this book a rating of five stars which gave me the confidence to buy it! This just shows how naive I am, or rather was.
