Essential radio skills!October 17, 2008 This book is a real gem. Working as a hospital radio presenter for two years I have picked up a fair ammount of knowledge whilst 'on the job', but this book is fantastic. I learnt so much. Some things that Peter talks about in the book you would pay good money to be taught at a radio school. Do yourself a favour. If you buy one book to teach you how to be a radio presenter, pick this one!
essential readingOctober 11, 2008 This book really is an essential read if you're thinking of getting in to radio. It covers everything you could possibly think of and in such an easy to understand but non patronizing way. It's font is easy to read and not too small and each chapter is divided in to sections with clear headings and bullet points. 10/10

If your religious you follow the Bible. If you want to get involved and learn everything about Radio..This is your bible.
I've read this book back to front and often refer back to it when I need to know anything. The author explains everything in simple terms and it will improve your radio skills if your new to Radio or been involved for a while.
From getting the Job in the first place right through to the interview and then your first day..Show Prep,Teasing and Trailing, what to say and not to say....it is as it says Essential.

The Definitive Do's And Don'ts Of RadioMay 8, 2007 If you're going to buy any book about radio production then buy this one full stop. This covers all the vital areas of live radio programming from programming music to booking guests.
As radio can be a very bitchy industry this book is especially useful for those who don't get the sort of encouragement from those who are "at the top" and are unsure of what direction they want to go in. The book also covers legal issues that need to be looked at within professional radio and useful advice on how to approach people on getting the job.
I am currently doing a radio course at University but I feel I've learnt a lot more valueable advice and information from reading this book than in any of the lectures I've sat through.
All this from an author who has worked in both presenting producing and journalism. Very good stuff.

As the careers advisor for The Stage Newspaper and also a regular broadcaster, I see a lot of how to books-I've also written a couple. This is book is quite simply not just one of the most comprehensive and essential books on radio i have ever come across, it is one of the best how to books on any subject. If you are serious about a career in radio and you don't have this book you are really missing out on something very useful.
