The fitness instructor's 'Bible'February 15, 2003 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I am currently undertaking a gym instructor/circuit/personal training course and required the underpinning anatomy and physiology knowledge. I found this book invaluable - brilliant, easy to understand, concise, humerous - it covers the following: Concepts of fitness, The skeleton, The muscular system, Kinesiology, The cardiorespiratory system, Energy systems, Nutrition, Health Screening, Workout structure, Gym instruction, Circuit training, Exercise to music,Step aerobics, Aqua aerobics, Teaching and instruction, Health and Safety, Customer Service, Promoting Physical activity. I call this 'my bible' - I always carry it with me. If i have any criticisms about the book it would be that the circuit training section could have gone into more detail - but other than that - thank you to the authors. It should definitely be recommended as a core text for the OCR/NVQ exams.
An excellent book for fitness instructorsJune 29, 2001 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have just completed a 5 day theory course as part of my fitness instructor programme where this book was used as the core text. It provided all of the information I needed and was really useful to revise from before the exam. Chapter summaries help to focus on the key points and I got 93% in my exam. I would really recommend this book for anyone taking a gym instructor or aerobics instructor course.
