This is essentially a compendium of three earlier Freely books: Strolling through Istanbul, Around the sea of Marmara and The Bosphorus, all published by Istanbul's Redhouse press. Freely is an excellent and throrough writer and it would be harder to find a better cultural guide.
The marketplace is slightly crowded by the fact that by the previous three volumes and his "Blue Guide" (which is also excellent) are still available. This volume is updated and slightly abbreviated from the other three books and fine for most people's needs, although the Blue Guide has slightly better plans. If you are planning to stay longer or are a real completist you might want to spend three times as much on three Redhouse volumes.
