A great guide book to a fantastic cityAugust 24, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I foind this Rough Guide and very informative just like the previous guide books I have used in the past. It has the top 20 places to visit and it is clearly laid out. The information about the places I visited was very informative and helpful. I attempted to speak in Spanish and I found the phrases and words useful when trying to order food or ask directions. I enjoyed reading the history of the area, Catalan and I would recommend the book to friends. Although the book was published 2 years ago some of the information was not correct but that should not be a problem.

Well worth the money for that weekend break or longer. The book gave us excellent tips on using a Barcelona card for travel, which gives you discount on loads of sightseeing. This saved us a fare bit of money for our weekend break. It describes the places perfectly everyone said don't got to Las Ramblas but the book says it how it is. We did go to Las Ramblas and found it a perfect starting point as everything leads from there anyway. I would recommend the book and Barcelona...I look forward to my next trip and chapter!

My friend and I recently spent a long weekend in Barcelona and found that the Rough Guide was indispencable. We took it everywhere with us and on the one occasion that we forgot it, we felt naked and had to rush back to our hotel to get it! I would recommend this book to anyone travelling to Barcelona. We have already purchased our next Rough Guide to start planning our next trip!
Not as good as the rest.June 23, 2001 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
Having used the rough guides religiously in the past to navigate and orientate my way around many cities, I found the Rough guide to Barcelona dissapointing. Not only did the layout seem confusing, but some information seemed to be out of date, leading to the conclusion that a revised edition is required. This has to be the first Rough Guide that has let me down, especially after the elation on previous holidays at having used the guide to find the most wonderful places and restaurants that otherwise I would never have found. All this guide requires is some reorganisation to obtain the archetypal straightforward layout of a rough guide and some updates on tourist and restaurant information, to bring it in line with its other publications. Come on Barcelona you are letting the side down !
The best guide to Barcelona I've readJune 12, 2001 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
When I went to Barcelona recently I relied heavily on this guide book and found it very useful for my purposes. I found it very well laid out and much easier to plan my time with than the Lonely Planet guide. It was also good on background information (history, architecture etc) and practical information such as restaraunts, getting around the city etc.
The only drawback with this book was that there were fewer pictures than some other guides but personally I didn't find this an important omission.
