Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars just for milan shopping....   November 2, 2008
i have other lonely planet guides, but this one was disapointing.
lacks lots of information and talks a lot about shopping.... maybe it's made to people who are only in milan for that!!

also, found a big mistake: Navigli are at metro stop Porta Genova, not Garibaldi (as it appears in the guide...)

1 out of 5 stars A disappointing purchase   October 23, 2008
I bought this for a two day break in Milan having previously used a number of the similarly-sized Dorling Kindersley Top Ten guides (Venice (Eyewitness Top Ten Travel Guide), for example) for other cities. The Best of Milan book had some useful maps although many road names are missing, even where there is actually room for them.

When we reached the Duomo, other than recommending a visit to the roof (which I'd endorse) we realised that there was nothing to suggest what to look for within the cathedral. We even went to the American bookstore (not listed in the guide though five Italian bookstores are mentioned) to find an alterantive guidebook. This one was way too minimalist. It is witty in places, but that wit seems to have ousted detail which would have been useful.

Some of the food recommendations are good. However, we took the recommendation of one of the "budget" hotels (still 100 euros a night in October); the noise and the smell from the drains (despite the good location of the hotel) made this a very bad plan.

The biggest issue to me was that the information about the sights is confined to 11 pages (11 to 20), something you can't tell when you order online. The book may work better for those interested in shopping, but if you want to see the sights, I'd try something else - perhaps Milan and the Lakes (Eyewitness Top Ten Travel Guide).
