Great book, Great SeriesMarch 20, 2007 Recently we stayed in a number of establishments recommended through this guide; well done for producing such a great book! By the way we also use their guides to other regions of the world - excellent too.
Amongst those we stayed in we particularly enjoyed Hotel Le Domaine aux Quat'Saisons, Carcassonne [...]; a haven of exceptional good taste, comforts and style, not to mention the delicious food.

My wife and I spent 6 weeks recently in France and Italy. In France we stayed in B and Bs found in Alistair Sawday`s book. Each of them was excellent and the details of each matched the reality. We were impressed by all the places we stayed, with the best service at Le Vieux Relais in Pepieux. We recommend this book most highly.

This book does equally well whether you are planning a holiday in a particular area or just looking for inspiration. My only problem is the embarrassment of choices. The layout is excellent. Personally I'd rather not choose a place to stay without knowing what it looks like, so the photos are invaluable. In addition, you know that each property has charm and character : exactly what I look for in a B&B. Highly recommended.
Don't leave home without consulting this guide.February 3, 2005 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Americans don't typically stay at B&Bs. Its not something we embrace because we don't enjoy the breadth of options that Europe has to offer. When planning a trip to Ireland, we used the Sawday's Ireland guide and had the best expereince traveling of any trip we've ever taken. Now we are planning a trip to France and cannot wait to stay at some of these wonderful places. The amount of research that goes into selecting the B&Bs is thorough and dependable. You can be confident that any recommendation you select from this book will exceed your expectations. Feed your need for adventure, meet wonderful people and save a few dollars off pricey tourist hotels. Buy this book and you won't be disappointed.
France for individualistsFebruary 3, 2005 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
For those who wish to enjoy the variety that France has to offer this book has it all, from chateau to modest house. Places in town, the mountains, the coast. The authors give you full address details so that you can enter the postcode into a route programme to plan your itinerary down to street level. The English spoken symbol is a godsend to those who are hesistant in French. The e-mail addresses enable quick and easy contact and the viewing of additional features on related websites, such as bedrooms, gardens etc. We found that all the places we contacted this way responded quickly, with enthusiasm, and rarely required a deposit. In many cases you can order meals, great when teamed with the local wine. We have stayed in places from 38 euros up to 120 euros per room, all different, all welcoming. I can heartily recommend this book to those wanting to see the real France, whether touring or just for places to stay en route. You will not be disappointed.
