3 out of 5 stars A board book set not suitable for under threes!!   November 5, 2008

I bought this as a gift for my niece aged 14 months. My own children have loved this book and I thought the gift set with a toy caterpillar to tunnel through the holes would be ideal. When it arrived there was a small sticker on the back stating the toy was not suitable for under threes due to small parts. Am I alone in assuming that a board book gift set is specifically targetted at under threes?? And if it's not suitable for its apparent age group you might get some warning before you buy it?? So be warned before you too have the hassle of returning this item!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant version of a classic childrens book   October 30, 2008
I just bought this for my kids for Christmas and its so lovely!!

Its a really sturdy giant board book and you feed the little caterpillar toy through the holes as you're reading the story. Its a fab idea to make the story interactive and I'm certain my sons will love helping the caterpillar eat his way through the foods in the book themselves when they are old enough to manage it.

The only negative points I have, which werent enough to knock a star off, is that the handle is a little flimsy and its a bit fiddly to get the caterpillar through the holes at first but its fine once you get used to it.

A really brilliant version of a classic book - well worth the money!

this is the ultimate book for any young growing child. I heard this book when I was a kid and now I am doing the same to my own child, thats how much of a classic it is. this comes with a soft toy of a catterpillar which can weave in and out of the book to symbolise him eating an apple. This was a great buy and you have days and days of enjoyment ahead

5 out of 5 stars A book for all generations...   June 28, 2004

I'm now in my thirties but I still remember my mom taking me to the local library. For young children, the library had a low display area including seats which was full of over-sized books. The first book I always looked for was the Hungery Caterpillar. I used to put my finger through the holes and absolutely love the simple but cyclical story and the vivid pictures. I'm now a Dad and this is the first book I will buy my daughter - a true classic!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a true childrens classic. The story appeals to the very young with its bright inviting pictures, older children with its fun repetitive narration which they love to join in and new readers whose familiarilty with the story can boost their confidence embarking on an exciting world of books. As a Nursery Nurse,I feel this giant board format will be an ideal gift for a childrens Nursery which I visit in the West Indies. The chidren will be able to interact with telling of the story with the toy caterpillar, and the book will withstand generations of loving.I know it will become a firm favourite instantly and hope I can read it to them first to share the magic !!
