Even the pig in the larder agrees, this book is the bees kneesJanuary 3, 2009 This is a funny story told in rhyme, suitable to be read to toddlers and read by 5-6 year olds. A cut above the average picture story book.
Good but not greatDecember 11, 2008 Not in the same league as Gruffalo but it's not bad. The rhyming is a bit forced in places but I like the lyrcal sing-song ending. My 3 year old liked it initially but then went off it after about four readings so the jury is still out re: longevity. I like the illustrations although it all looks a bit bleak compared to Gruffalo and Whale/Snail.
Fun!December 4, 2008 This was our first book from the Donaldson@Scheffler duo, and my son who was about 1 year old at that time, immediately started to carry it around the house wherever he went. It was the perfect introduction for him to books and since then we've been reading stories every day without fail. This book, as all the others from these authors are highly recommended.
BrilliantJuly 30, 2008 My 2 year old daughter loves all of these books - very imaginative stories - great illustrations - pages contain lots of detail she really enjoys.

What a fantastic read and great for all ages - although the Gruffalo is still the frim favourite in our house this book gives it a real run for its money..... highly recommend this for all 1-7 year olds. Also as an adult that enjoys doing the voices (badly!) its easy to read this book aloud again and again without getting tired of it. Julia and Alex are a great team - brilliant story and brilliant pics.
