Hauntingly familiar children's storiesMay 9, 2002 This is a generous selection of Philippa Pearce's excellent short stories. The title sums up what is on offer: stories about the supernatural and the mundane, except reality through the eyes of such a skillfull storyteller is anything but dull.
My personal favourites are the stories first published in the collection 'What the Neighbours Did and Other Stories': simple yet exhilarating stories like 'In the Middle of the Night' and 'The Great Blackberry Pick'. They demonstrate, as does all of Philippa Pearce's work, how to tell a story clearly and beautifully.
