5 out of 5 stars Spellbinding   December 13, 2008
From the first chapter I was hooked, I had to go and buy the remaining three books in the series, this is an amazing & unique story, it will engross you with hours of enyoyment...
So many others have given detailed analyis of this book,I'd be repeating what they have written, needless to say Alison Croggan has excelled & created an entirely new world with enduringly loveable characters. A book you'll want to keep & add to.

5 out of 5 stars impeccable! [by becky c]   January 5, 2008
This book is incredible! i read it in 1 day as i couldn't put it down and sped through it. Alison's desciptions were first class and it left me wanting for more, you can believe that these world's nd poeple exsit. :)

Maerad's/Cadvan's relationship is very intense and when they argue it made me feel sad and i can really relate to it.

When Arkan comes in to the picture it is obvious, to me, that maerad and him are destined to belong together and the small reactions and emotions that they show when they are together sends shivers down my spine.

My one critisism is that Maerad and Arkan really should have kissed once just before he reads the runes on her lyre it would have just completed the whole "Je ne sais quoi"

i adored it and carn't wait for The Singing to come out!! :(

5 out of 5 stars The best one!!   September 5, 2007
This is my favourite book of the series so far. The relationship betwen Maread and Cadvan is so well written that you really spend alot of time wondering what is going on between them.

Maread is such a great character and i think that alot of people who read these books will fall in love with her.

This book is truly amazing, full of fantastic landscapes and new exciting characters it really is the best of the series!!

Quite sad in places, i think i welled tears at one point, before remembering that this was just a book.

A must for those who love to loose themselves in a great fantasy book!!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS BOOK!!! Okay, so i read this book before The Gift (sorry), but then that made me want to read this book REALLY BADLY, so maybe that's not such a bad thing. Croggon describes this series as a 'classic romance' but is it about Maerad, or Hem? Is it Maerad + Cadvan (oo-er)? Or Maerad + Arkan? Or Cadvan + Nerili? Hem + Zelika (I think that's how you spell her name)? It makes my mind boggle. Or was Croggon just giving the general aspect of the series? Please mail me on your views and help make me less confused!!

5 out of 5 stars Seriously good reading!   June 26, 2007
Easily one of the best book series out there! The Gift was super, and I didn't think it could get any better, but Alison Croggon is such a magnificent writer that the sequel blew me away! The Crow, too, is a brilliant read and worth the wait. Waiting for the fourth book is killing me, but it's only further proof that these novels are one of those rare species of books that you can read over and over again, to keep yourself occupied until the next one is released!
