Yet another winner from the fantastic Horowitz January 6, 2009 This man is brilliant! He writes so well, and is is just as entertaining for adults (male and female) as it is for children (boys or girls) - mp3 versions are a great idea for long car journeys listened to by whole family. This builds on Raven's Gate, and I preferred it, with its Peruvian location and the spooky villain Mr Salamander. The brief section located in Britain is really exciting, and there is a lovely section about the really unpleasant Gwenda Davies, Matt's Aunt, and her horrible boyfriend Brian to enjoy. This is my favourite of the first three books (I haven't read Necropolis yet, so can't comment) it is exciting with a lovely sprinkling of supernatural activity. There are some great narrative twists and turns, and you get thoroughly sucked in to Horowitz's fictional world. It's a great book and highly recommended. (Reading Raven's Gate first would be advisable, but isn't entirely necessary, as explanations are offered where knowledge of what has happened before is required)
deja vu January 2, 2009 I was actually surprised to see the power of 5 series appear again after the aborted first attempt. I was lucky enough to read the series the first time around in the 80's when I was in school, and was unbelievably disappointed that it was never finished (the original version of this book was 'night of the scorpion', and it was the pentagram series)
What better recommendation can i give other than that i still fondly remember it 20 years later, other than being modernised a little the rewrite seems fairly close to what i remember!
After all this time, i may be a little old, but i'm really looking forward to finding out how it ends!
Anthony Horowitz has done it again December 12, 2008 I love the books from this guy. Ravemns Gate was ace, This was a brillaint book, Alex Rider one of the best series I have read,Fledgling Jason Steed is the best book I have read and now I read Evil Star. It starts off a little slower than Ravens Gate but once its get going its non stop edge of the seat reading.
Evil Star. NOT ALEX RIDER or JASON STEED. October 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dont get me wrong its a great book, LOOK I gave it 5 stars. But I was expecting it tob be like Alex Rider of Jason Steed. After Ravens Gate I thought it would be better. Its still a great novel and I recommend it although not for under 14.
Like the others, Evil Star is a gripping novel July 16, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Evil Star is a great read, that will have you on the edge of your seat - hooked and eager for more, no matter how old you are.
In this, Evil Star, Matt Freeman gets, inevitably, up to his high-tech adventures once again. There is no disappointments, although it takes a considerably longer time to get into than the other three. Evil Star is a very realistic tale, and can ease you into thinking it's real and it's happening next to you. If you're reading it while the rest of your family are eating their dinner, or something similar, and they ask you a question - prepare to not answer, because you're so hooked it's automatic. The storyline is easily believable, but don't be led into the trap that makes you think you can be like Matt himself.
Evil Star is amazing, and makes you want to read on.
