4 out of 5 stars It may be trash, but it's definately some of the most entertaining trash I've ever read   December 31, 2008
I read Twilight after I saw the trailer for the film and I didn't like it. Then, for some unexplicable reason I decided to read New Moon, and suddenly found myself captivated by Bella and Jacob's relationship & loved it. Eclipse takes the focus back onto Bella and Edward so I knew from the start I'd be a little disappointed but I still raced through the book and enjoyed every one of it's 600+ pages. for such a long book that is quite a feat!

In Eclipe Bella has to make a choice between the man she loves and her best mate, or find a way to bring them together. At the same time she also has to deal with the impending date of her change into vampirehood - something she's beginning to have second thoughts about. And theres also a group of blood-thirsty newly-made vampires on the loose in a city close by too, just to add in an extra dose of danger to keep things all exciting.

I've heard a lot fo people critisise these books, calling them nothing more than trash, and all I can say to that is yes these books are trash but, as the saying goes, one man's rubbish is another man's treasure. You don't read the Twilight series for it's literary value, you read them because you care about the characters and want to know what happens to them as if they were your friends.

Expect predictable plots, Bella being difficult, plenty of the Cullen's and their past, & more about werewolves. Expect to be transported to another world for 12 hours straight and to enjoy every moment of it. Expect trashy teen vampire romance written by a pro.

5 out of 5 stars Eclipse   November 6, 2008
- The Author -
Stephenie Meyer was born on the 24th of December, 1973. She is an american author who writes for both adults and teenagers. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, after graduating from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Stephenie Meyer now lives with her husband who she met whilst growing up with her three sons.

- About -
Eclipse is the sequel to New Moon, part of a four part series although there is a fifth book not yet released which is Twilight written in another characters perspective) written by an american international bestseller. First published hardcover in August 2007, it is a young adult book, both a romance book and an adventure book. It continues the story of 17/18 year old Bella (Isabella) Swan who has moved to Forks, Washington, and has fallen in love with vampire, Edward Cullen. In Eclipse, there have been many mysterious murders. It is 629 pages long in the hardcover version.

- Storyline -
In Seattle, there have been many mysterious unsolved murders. The bodies are nowhere to be found and Edward concludes that there is a newborn vampire on the loose, killing as it can't control it's hunger for blood. Bella wants to see Jacob and explains to Edward. Edward isn't very happy, as Jacob is a werewolf and dosen't really want Bella and Jacob to be friends, though he can't stop them. Bella tries to convince him that Jacob of any of the pack would try to hurt her, but Edward still fears for Bellas safety. After a while, Edward let's go and lets Bella visit Jacob, but only if she has her phone on her.

Alice sees Victoria, a vampire that is hunting Bella, is back in town. The Cullens wonder whether Victoria has anything to do with all the murders in Seattle.Things start to get suspicious when Bella goes home to find her pillow and some of her clothes missing.

Bella pushes things with Edward wanting to go further but Edward refuses, saying that he might hurt her. He tells her that it's marriage first, and proposes. Dissapointed, Bella agrees as she realises it is more important to be with Edward forever. Bella is also trying to convince Edward to turn her into a vampire but he still refuses.

The Seattle murders get worse and things get more and more suspicious. The Cullens are soon sure that Victoria is behind but that there is more than one newborn on the loose. And it's Bella who she's planning to kill.

- Price -
Eclipse hardcover is RRP 12.99. It's mostly priced around 8.00 in shops though you could probably get a good deal online with the prequel New Moon, or sequel Breaking Dawn.

- Verdict -
Like New Moon, Eclipse recieved mixed reviews.

I did enjoy the love triangle storyline, the dynamics between Bella, Edward and Jacob were great. Bella loves both Edward and Jacob, and Jacob and Edward both love Bella. In this book, Jacob realises that if he needs to get Bella's love, he needs it know. Otherwise Bella will be turned into a vampire, and there will be no going back. I really liked the way Stephenie Meyer makes subtle hints about it at the beginning, instead of making it completely clear.

In Eclipse, you find out the secrets of Rosalie's and Jasper's transformations into vampires.

Eclipse definetely had a better storyline that New Moon. The storyline in New Moon had loose ends, but at the same time, it was excellently written. But although the storyline was better in eclipse, the actual writing wasn't. It failed to keep me as hooked as Twilight and New Moon did, and I wasn't that bothered about it.

Despite the negative critisism I've made, I do still believe that Eclipse is a wonderful book. There is a lot more action than there was in New Moon. And although I admit that it was my least favourite book from the Twilight series, it was still entertaining and a good read with a lot attention to detail and careful styling.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   October 12, 2008
Well what can I say? I absolutely loved this book! I was a bit dubious as it has mixed reviews. I was a little worried I wouldn't enjoy it so much, but I loved it. Dare I even say I enjoyed it as much as Twilight.

I loved Jacob Black in this book, hearing about the history of his kind and his journey with Bella I really did enjoy it. Not knowing what choice Bella would make?

This book for me was packed with everything I love in a book, romance, emotion, action and so much more.

Edward was desirable as ever. He is of course my favourite character in the book. I loved reading about his onward journey with Bella, his trials with his jealousy and so on....

I can't wait to see this book made into a movie. I hope they do it justice.

3 out of 5 stars hmmm...   July 27, 2008

First and foremost I have to admit that from about the third chapter of Twilight I was not able to put these books down, they really do have some unseen grip on the reader (and is my reason for giving this 3 stars), as far as enjoyability goes I'd say I liked Eclipse the best, I loved how it delved into the history of the other vampires and of course the werewolves, but it was by far the most predictable(did Meyer really think we wouldn't connect the dots?), and I found myself more than once with a very sudden urge to strangle Bella.

And I definitely find myself agreeing with a lot of what others here have said, her whole thought process within this book is just completely and utterly wacked, if the guy you are insanely in love with and who you cannot live or breathe without asks you to marry him, you say yes, and her selfishness just seems to grow, and her self conciousness just continues to get on my nerves, Edward loves her, and I think he has proven that on more than one occassion, and yes we all have insecurities but I think it could have been toned down.

And the whole Jacob deal, like what? She only ever saw him as a brother, and knew with certainty that there was nothing more, and then all of a sudden after Jacob FORCES, yes forces himself on her then he seems to be worth ruining her relationship with Edward over, right that makes perfect sense, it's absolutely ridiculous, I mean when he kisses her it actually repulses her, she tries to shove him off, it was quite clear that a line had been crossed. I am just not convinced by the whole her being in love with Jacob as well, it doesn't make sense, and I'm really rather disgusted at her father's reaction, had it been Edward, god forbid, then all hell woud have broken loose, but because it's Jacob, it's ok if he attacks his daughter.

I really believe that the pursuit of tat whole storyline has rather messed things up, but alas I am going to read the next installment to see if Meyer can be redeemed, regardless of its flaws, I am a slave to this newest of obsessions...

(sighs)

5 out of 5 stars can't wait for the next book to come out   July 17, 2008
This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. There is a lot of angst in these books which never sits very well for me, however it only brings certain characters closer together.

I almost feel as thought SM has taken various themes from certain classics such as Romeo and Juliet and Wuthering Heights, with the exception that the ending is always hopeful.

Regarding this book - the plot was fantastic, the characters even more lovable (Edward especially). He is Heathcliffe, Romeo, Darcy - all mixed together! One thing that irritated me was Bella's ungratefulness towards Edward and his family who are trying to look out for her. She must know by now it's for her own good. Hopefully the final book will tie things up with Jacob (meeting someone else) because he was getting quite tiresome in this novel, and hopefully Bella and Edward will both get what they want. She will break many hearts if it doesn't.

5 stars!
