This is a superb book. The photographs are so inspiring, just beautiful.
The advice is first class and very good if you need the confirence to introduce your baby to swimming, even from birth and includes how to submerge your baby safely.
Highly recommended.

I'm a swimming teacher and this book has even taught me a thing or two. There are different schools of thought on baby-swimming, especially with new borns, and the under water reflex etc, but this books handles the whole issue sensitively and authoratitively. The pictures are great and should give parents lots of ideas of things to try, but also the confidence to actually do them. Teaching your young child to swim is so incredibly important, and I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to all parents.

5 out of 5 stars Confidence with baby swimming   February 10, 2005

I bought this book because I belief in not using floatation devices 100% of the time (it interferes with learning about buoyancy) to teach a child to swim, but I felt I was a bit stuck with my 16 month old and wanted some ideas on how to progress.
This book exceeded my expectations. It has given me more ideas on how to hold my daughter in the water, including ways in which I can swim with her. I enjoyed the chapters on how to take her underwater; there is a good explanation of the dive reflex in newborns. It is presented in an easy to read format, with excellent photographs to demonstrate the techniques being used. The fun part of swimming for both of you is emphasised. If you are starting with a newborn there are excellent explanations of how to start your baby off in the water (starting with the bath), how to select a suitable pool and what sort of equipment you might like. Also there is an explanation about the newborn swimming reflexes. This book really does give you confidence with your baby in the water without having to rug them up in arm bands and rubber rings, and does what it says it will - "Teach your baby the joys of water - from newborn floating to toddler swimming."
