4 out of 5 stars Possibly the most popular model in practice today?   November 5, 2008
Any book that helps to detail the 12 activities of daily living within a nursing model is going to be useful, however R-L-T is a model much used and therefore known within care management.

This book lends much information for those wishing to apply it or gain further knowledge and as such the chapters are divided - to cover `the model of living' which details physiological elements - including throughout the lifespan, potential psychological and environmental factors.

It then takes all of this information and further supports your learning by applying this to `the model for nursing'. In each chapter your knowledge is culminated ensuring you are able to apply it to your role by utilising many exercises and scenarios to concrete your learning further.

This text is a must for both nursing students and graduates to use as an ongoing professional reference that ensures the fundamental areas of nursing and care are not forgotten.

The text is well structured and written in an easily understood language, i have used this book intensively for one particular assignment (activities of living!!!) but i will see myself refering back to it throughout training simply because the roper et al model is so popular and used widely throughout clinical settings. It has helped me to develop my skills in assesssing patients and seeing the importance of all the activites of living. A valuble book to have during your training and nursing career.

I'm a first year student nurse and bought this to help with an assignment as my tutors discuss this model more than any other, and it is actually used in practice.
I have found it invaluable as not only does it show the model and the 12 activities & their influencing factors, it shows how to use it when you're actually out there on the wards or in the community.
It provides case studies, gives you exercises to think about, appendixes of care plans and assessments, and even gives examples of questions to ask to establish the clients normal Activities of Living. Physiological and other diagrams are kept simple but very understandable, and the whole concept is explained in clear reader friendly language.
As a result of seeing my copy, two of my student mates have bought their own. I will use this book throughout my course and I imagine for a long time afterwards. If you are going to buy just one theory book I would say make it this one.
